## Description

Finally, all the essentials in one tough little box. You need a serious D.I. for playing live and laying down killer tracks. You've got to have a preamp and finely tuned EQ to add punch to your tones. And you definitely can't do without some rich, custom distortion. This one-of-a-kind pedal gives you the whole deal in a bomb-proof enclosure that will survive even the most out of control gigs-and players. Built with the highest quality components, the M-80 can give you eve everything from warmth and transparency to a volcanic roar, without making you scroll through menu screens or an indecipherable manual. Engage the color switch for some sweet preset EQ, then tweak your tone with three band control. Dial in your ideal distortion with the gain knob and blend just the right amount into your clean signal, then kick it on and off at will. The adjustable noise gate pours on the sustain and cuts out hum and hiss. With XLR and parallel 1/4" outputs and a phantom power switch, you'll never have a problem delivering your choice new tones.

Review: Outstanding Value for the Money - This is a phenomenal pedal; it really makes your bass sound good. Some people have complained that the distortion basically starts with the "color" feature, but I think that's great. I wouldn't even use this without color on, because it just sounds so amazing. So, I'm really glad that the distortion is just adding dirt to that sound. It's extremely versatile and really brings out the tone. And at under $200; to even have a shot at getting something better than this, you would need to spend at least $300. Even then, it's going to be hit or miss until you get to $500 or more. But as many reviewers have pointed out, this pedal is good enough for any live performance setting (can't speak to recording, since I haven't used it for that).
Review: Good pedal for live gigs - I have used this pedal for live gigs and band practice over 60 times in the last year. Some of the gigs are a 2 hour drive with the rest of the band's gear so being able to travel light is great. The build quality is excellent. The 9v battery is nice for when I didn't have enough time or space to plug in on a power cord. The output is clean. Half the time I run it into an amp, other locations it's straight into the PA. I can always get the sound adjusted to the other audio gear without having to change house settings or bug the audio guy during set up. It's got the main essential EQ and distortion I need for the mid 2000s punk/rock/metal, the push of a button I can switch itthe distortion off and play worship music. It's a good little box for practice to shape your general sound, live gigs with different audio equipment without having to drag your own amp everywhere, and it is totally affordable for what it delivers. I can add octave or compressor pedals, but honestly in a year I haven't been forced to. My gig bag has a Mitchell short scale bass I modded with EMG PJAX pickups wired at 18v, Ernie Ball cobalt heavy strings, live wire or Fender cables, a Fender Flash 2.0 tuner, and the MXR Bass D.I.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: I'm looking for something to work as a preamp to record directly into a Tascam portastudio - would this do the trick? Or would a Sansamp be better?**
A: I don’t know the Sansamp but the M80 is a pre-amp so should work. They also make a pre-amp M81 which doesn’t have distortion and is a smaller form factor. I’m not particular fond of the M80 distortion but otherwise it’s a good solid DI/pre-amp with EQ.

**Q: Can I use INSTRUMENT output to go to my stage amp; and have it work whether or not the XLR is connected? Also, does the volume only affect the XLR?**
A: I'm not sure since I do not use it that way. I use the XLR right into the mains. I am assuming that you would like to manipulate the 1/4" volume as you would with the XLR? I will say that this is a great pedal as a DI and not as a preamp per se. When I use my stage amp, I do not use this pedal as I connect my pedal board inline on the preamp and then take the signal post effect to the board from the preamp. If you would like, I can try the 1/4" set up and get back to you. i will be playing this coming Sunday and can leave you a message Sunday afternoon.

**Q: No power supply?**
A: Nope. You can use a 9v battery or a standard 9v DC pedal power supply.

**Q: Can noise gate be used without distrotion ?**
A: No, it cannot. The clean channel is SUPER clean with no need for a gate anyways. If you need a gate pedal, I recommend the Decimator for sure!

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Does what it says it does and more!
*by T***D on February 8, 2012*

I bought this DI box and EQ/Distortion pedal because I often play through unfamiliar and older amps when I travel by air to venues. This box allows me to emulate the two channels I have on my Aguilar head at home by providing clean and distorted channels. Including the Bypass option, I have three sounds accessible by footswitch. When playing through an amp with no DI, this gives me the option to DI into the board rather than mic the amp. All the EQ, color and noise gate controls work as advertised. This box allows me to pack light and know I will get the sound I want regardless of the amp or bass (active or passive) that I will use at the venue (we usually rent rather than ship equipment). One note: If you use effects they have to be connected ahead of this pedal otherwise they will not be available via the DI to the board. To round out my travel kit I use a Boss TU-3 Chromatic Pedal Tuner which allows me to mute while tuning, a MXR Bass Envelope Filter Effect Pedal and an old Digitech Chorus.
