When the sides are down this hat gives excellent shade from the worst of the sun which is essential if you want your skin to remain in good condition.As an aside, as I work in hot climates a lot I did have a skin check and the doctor told me that the majority of skin cancers he had come across started around the ears and nose. Basically the areas that get damaged easily due to sun exposure all the time. Hence me generally wearing a hat whenever at risk.The material is according to the label 100% cotton and to be fair feels like it, having a comfortable semi-rigid construction.There is also a mesh section which does help keep your head cooler, especially if there is a bit of a breeze to get some circulation.Overall. especially given the price, I'm very happy with this hat.
