    Great disc brakes.

These brakes are awesome. I had tektro mechanical disc brakes, and these as significantly better. Almost as good as hydraulic disc brakes, but not quite. Easy to install and setup. The instructions are a little confusing, but once you do it (or watch their setup videos on youtube) you realize it's pretty simple. I've ridden on them for over a year on a Fuji Tread, doing mostly road riding and some trails and I can vouch for them. You can break later and harder in the turns, and they are responsive. They "do" heat up after long down hills, but no loss of control. I think the overall feel of the breaks also has a lot to do with the pads - I changed the original pads that came with them, and they do feel different. So, if you have mechanical brakes you're not happy with, these do a great job. If you have good mechanical disc brakes, you might want to test these somewhere first before you buy.

Very satisfied so far, excellent upgrade though pricey.

Originally I bought these because I'm riding an ebike and i have to deal with using the cut-off feature on the original equipment levers which were the only thing on the bike of decent quality. However, I find them to be great alternatives to full hydronics and I'm thinking they might even be more reliable since the entire fluid system is self contained. While they are not as smooth and silky as full hydros, I think they are an excellent value probably less trouble than full hydros. They are most certainly a safer, better braking system than the mechanical xoom junk disk brakes that came with the bike and well worth the investment. Especially with the mechanicals requiring frequent adjustments which is nonsense. Never had to do that with the old horseshoe brakes. Also, because I'm using my old levers, I'm able to buy a unit for the front only and the bike doesn't like patchwork. So that saves some good cash. I'm hard on the fronts so we'll see after a 1000 or so miles if they stand the test and then I'll consider doing the rears. After about 200 miles, I'm very satisfied even though they are pricey.

Great product. Replaces the stock brake (BB-5)

*by D***Y on Reviewed in the United States on August 28, 2016*

Put on Salsa Vaya (2012), fairly tight fit, but works. Great product. Replaces the stock brake (BB-5), which was loud, fussy to adjust and had a pulsed feeling when applied with force. HyRd is completely silent, straight forward set up. On first ride did not notice any difference compared to BB-5 (still in front) other than it was completely silent. Switched housing to compressionless and it is even better. I never noticed any 'squishiness', but with the compressionless housing there is still 1cm between the brake lever and bars when the pads are FULLY engaged. Seems like a great design idea- especially for a fat guy on a loaded touring bike!
