It wasn't some superficial storyline used as a medium to teach the Skinny School rules. I really enjoyed the plot and getting to know the characters. Julie certainly knows how to tell a good story! I appreciated many of the Skinny School principles such as eating wholesomely and cleanly, being prepared and not keeping Trash Food around, exercising, having a champion mentality, and using the hunger scale to decide when to eat and when to stop. That last one is really going to be useful to me. What I don't agree with is the "ditch" portion of the rules. The main character is told to ditch starches and sweets. Ditching sweets, I am on board with. Though that is a tough one for me, I see the value in doing so for weight loss and general health. But ditching starches, all starches, no. That's more or less the Atkins diet which causes really quick weight loss. Jackie's 45 pound weight loss was rather quick. We'd all like to get it off overnight, but I don't agree with that approach. I am speaking as someone with a Bachelor's degree in nutrition. There are clean starches available, and I personally believe that those are okay in smart amounts and portions. You can still lose weight consuming smarter choice starches (carbs), maybe just not as quickly. I also didn't care for the fact that Jackie had returned to her pre-pregnancy weight, each time, after 3 children, within 8 weeks of giving birth. That would be the exception, not the rule in real life. I did learn some great tools in Skinny School and I enjoyed reading it. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Love this book. *by M***R on Reviewed in the United States on February 6, 2016* I read this whole book in two days, which says a lot considering that I have 4 little boys! Julie has a lot of credibility, with 6 children of her own, 5 of them boys. This in itself tells me that life is not easy for her, but if she has been able to overcome this issue of compulsive over-eating, then I can do it too. I loved the story. I kind of wish that all of the genie's comments were laid out in a separate section. The story helped me a lot, envisioning how someone would live this program out day to day. I wish that we could have more stories of more women's transformations, women at different stages of life.I am just beginning, a few days into the program, but I have so much hope for the future. I need to lose about 15 lbs, which isn't a huge amount, but ultimately it will great to get this huge monkey off my back, the burden of compulsive and emotional overeating. To be honest, I have read a lot of nutrition books, so I sort of knew a lot of this information, but Julie phrased it in a new way that made a lot of sense to me.Thank you, Julie, for this awesome program.
