I attempted to read the Gita twice before by other authors but I just couldn't get through it because of the way it was written and too much commentary. This book does not have extra commentary but you don't need it because the translation is easy to read and comprehend. I highly recommend this book. I got the hard cover version and the pages were clear and crisp. Some of the pages had some damage when it arrived but this still gets 5 stars. The translation is clear and lovely, not either too technical or too poetic, as some others. And I have read more than one. This edition is well worth the price in my opinion. It is rugged and attractive, with a hard cover, leatherbound look and high-quality end papers. Pages are thick and the print is sharp and dark. As for the meaning and beauty of the Bhagavad Gita, I will not touch that question in this review, for it is an enormous topic. But if you seek a good, clear English translation, without external commentary and other distractions, this is an excellent choice.
