The bait that comes with it has a chemical smell so I did embellish it with some fruit and sugar. I was skeptical that the quite large entrance in the base would allow an easy escape for wasp but this is not the case and many wasps go in and do not come out. It should be noted that this only works hung up as the entrance is in the base so can not be put on a surface.
