With my Standard Poodle, they always do eventually.** A: I will be answering as if the question is worded "How long before the metal pins start to fall out" instead of the strangely worded question above. So... On to it. I bought one of these brushes in July 2017 and have used it in my opinion quit a lot or in other words extensively. I have used it to comb out or brush out knots in my Havanese and just general use of brushing. I have washed the brush several times, and not even one pin has come out. I even use a metal comb to get hair out of the brush side with the metal pins. Still no pin has come out or been lost. In my humble opinion, this is a sturdy, well built brush that can stand quite a lot of use. That is not to say it is indestructible and that perhaps at some point in the future it could possibly loos a pin. But as is, this one is going strong. I can recommend it. Read my review if you like. **Q: Would you recommend this brush for a golden doodle ?** A: I'm not sure about a golden doodle. I have 3 small dogs, each with different types of fur and they all like this brush, as do I. As another reviewer said, it might not stand up to a large thick furred dog. It does very well on my small thick coated dog. **Q: Is this brush good for a 5 pound Yorkie?** A: Would work but could be a bit big if using the pin side. The brush side would be fine. **Q: Does this have a soft comb and brush ?** A: It has no comb, unless you call the pin brush a comb.
