There is a lip on the top side of the tape that you can use a pen to push it down and then it will release the tabs for both Side A and B. Once you take the tabs off, it will keep it from being erased. If later on, you want to erase it you could get a small piece of tape and tape over the tabs or lips and you can record it again. Then, after you do that you can take the tape off and it won't be erased. If that's what you are referring to, then I think I may have helped you here.
