The material is also a little more slack in this one... **Q: What is the diameter of the pipes?** A: Probably about an inch around. They are small but when assembled it is very sturdy, much more so than it appears when unboxed. **Q: Is there a way to replace one of the inside connectors? I wasn't expecting something very sturdy or anything amazing for 29.99 so for the price and simplicity of install, I say 5 stars. For material used 3 stars, as some of the rods were bent at the end, no longer in circle form to be pushed into the plastic inserts. They are easily fixed. I used a small wood dowel and light pressure to re-round them out. If you are too forceful I imagine they would break easily. The rods themselves are very thin metal. The fabric is thinner than I imagined and it has more of a brown hue to it then grey. Over all not a bad purchase for 30 bucks and I purchased for organization for my stepsons room. That way if he destroys it (he's 4 and clumsy) I'm not out $100 or anything too expensive. Once he grows out of it, ill use it for storage in my basement. The materials are very cheap, obviously. The material over the supports is basically laminated paper. The connecting tubes are light aluminum perhaps? Which easily bend if too much pressure is on them. They aren't perfectly the same size, so some fit more snug in the holes than others, leading to imperfect shelves unless you push from all angles to try to fix it. And you have to entirely assemble about 100 tube pieces and the paper material. Can't imagine this costs more than $5 to produce. It is lightweight and should be sturdy enough for lighter materials, but its not a real bookcase and won't support heavy items.
