I noticed a hot plastic smell, which I guess is to be expected. It heats up relatively fast, although not as fast as my curling iron. I like that I can set my hair, then do my makeup while the curlers do their work. They did a good job curling my hair. We'll see how long the curls last. The two negatives: no automatic shutoff (which would have been convenient), and NO place to put the J-clips, unlike any hot roller set I've ever had before.
