It does break the wind and appears to be waterproof. I bought it for my husband, who does landscaping and snow removal. He typically wears a size Large but I purchased an XL so that he could wear something under it-- the picture showed looks like it isn't a very heavy jacket. I was correct, it's not a heavy winter jacket. It's more of a light jacket with a light fleece liner. We didn't realize immediately that you have to hold the power button for 3 seconds for it to turn on. There are no directions in the package. But the seller answered our question VERY quickly, so kudos to the seller. So great for a little time outside in cold weather, not great if you spend long periods of time outside..I also expected it to be VERY WARM when turned on based on some reviews. He wore it once and said that it was warm while he was working. However, I've been wearing it to get to work (a very short walk) and sometimes I have to touch it to see if it's turned on. It doesn't get extremely warm. Also the zipper is a little flimsy. For the money, it's a good coat.
