Many players over the years have added switches to Stratocasters to allow this combination, and the switch is usually a push/pull pot or a mini-toggle. Here’s a better idea. Rather then use a switch, we use the bottom tone control to function as the switch. But since this control is a variable resistor, rather than merely switch a pickup on or off, it allows the player to “blend” a pickup into or out of the mix, like a volume control would do. In the full-clockwise position the blender control does absolutely nothing, and in fact makes itself disappear from the circuit so as not to load the circuit (think true bypass). In this position, the 5-way switch functions like a normal Strat, with one volume and one tone control. Turning the control counter-clockwise in positions 1 and 2 blends in the neck pickup, while turning it in positions 4 and 5 blends in the bridge pickup. The. 047 wil give you more mid tones while the .022 still give you brighter tones. Seymour Duncan prefers the .047 **Q: Is it easy to install?** A: First let me say that the parts are high quality and the pots are full size. Check your body to make sure the pots will fit in the cavity when mounted on the pickguard. Some routing out of the cavity may be required, this is especially true on most import strat style guitars which use mini pots. The schematic is detailed and you have the option to use vintage (cloth covered) or modern (plastic coasted) wiring. All wire is included and it's plenty long enough. At this point I can't remember if the schematic for the treble bleed was included (I did install mine), but you can find that easily on the internet - the cap and resistor for it are included. That said you must have good soldering skills and a decent soldering iron. If you don't then please do yourself a favor and have it soldered up by a skilled person. Otherwise you run the risk of burning up your components with too high temp or not getting a good connection with a cold solder joint. I mounted everything in my pickguard before I started to keep good reference. Also make sure you have shielding foil installed on the underside of your pickguard before you mount your controls, otherwise you aren't going to be happy with the cutouts and static of ungrounded/unshielded controls. It took about 30 minutes to solder the connections. It works great! **Q: Will this work with a rear-routed Stratocaster? Are the pot shafts long enough to go through the body instead of pickguard?** A: I can't directly answer this. The pot shafts worked fine for my pickguard. How thick is the wood from the inside surface where the pot faces into (on the front side) to the exterior (front) of the body? If it's under 1/4 inch, you're probably fine. If it's over 1/4 inch, I'd be leery, but it still may be worth checking. 3/8th inch, and I'd say probably not. Its a good kit—high quality parts, and the blender mod is very cool. **Q: What values are used for the cap and resistor in the treble bleed circuit?** A: 680pF capacitor, 220k resistor.
