With heading out there in the fall, you have some colder temperatures to deal with. Another feature for me has been the consistent rain. I wanted some gloves that would allow me to paddle the canoe comfortably, not get in the way as I portaged items, and most importantly, would keep my hands warm despite the weather. These did the trick. I didn't experience much water-resistance with these gloves (the insides were noticeably wet after the rain paddle) but I kept them in my pants pockets when not wearing them and they did keep my hands warm in the elements even though they were a little wet.
