Anodizing metal is not an applied product, rather is is a electro-chemical process that alters the metal. So, it black "appearance" does not wear off. About fur discoloration. There are several ways fur will discolor: 1) New metal products should be washed before use to remove a finishing product from the metal. Just like washing new clothes prior to wearing to remove the factory treatments to the fabric, wash metal dog tack prior to use. 2) Some dogs have a sensitivity to metal products. The symptoms can show as fur discoloration and/or scratching. This is similar to people who are sensitive to various metals used in jewelry. 3) Sometimes dogs have a PH in their system that will react to metals, and the skin and fur will discolor. They may or may not be uncomfortable, but the fur will be unsightly. 4) A very common cause of fur discoloration is dirt. Collars have lots of nooks and crannies, as we say, and all those little places accumulate dirt, skin flakes, dander, oil, sweat, etc. So, keep collars clean. Wash regularly. This will prevent most problems. Good collar hygiene goes a long way. Of course, on dark fur, discoloration is not noticeable, though if a dog is constantly scratching at the neck area, pay attention to the cause. **Q: Is the whole latch metal or is the piece that hoes in plastic?** A: Majority of latch is metal. Only Inside latch clip is hard plastic. Very sturdy. Good build quality. No problems or changes after 3 mos of daily use. **Q: What size are the prongs? 2.25 mm? or larger? I'm not interested in the length of the collar, just the prong size.** A: Here is additional information that is helpful. Herm Sprenger makes their prong training collars in the following prong sizes: a) 2.25 mm for up to 20 kilograms or 44 pounds b) 3 mm and 3.2 mm for up to 40 kilograms or 88 pounds c) 3.9 and 4 mm for up to 70 kilograms or 154 pounds ## Frequently Bought Together - Herm Sprenger Black Stainless Steel 16" Prong Collar, One Size - Herm Sprenger ClicLock Fastener Stainless Steel Buckle for Prong Dog Training Collar & Quick Release with Easy Buckle for Medium Large Dogs (3.0/3.2mm) - Herm Sprenger Black Stainless Steel ClicLock Buckle Quick Release Fastener for Dog Training Prong Collar for Small Medium Large Dogs Made in Germany (3.2mm) --- ## Why Shop on Desertcart? - 🛒 **Trusted by 1.3+ Million Shoppers** — Serving international shoppers since 2016 - 🌍 **Shop Globally** — Access 737+ million products across 21 categories - 💰 **No Hidden Fees** — All customs, duties, and taxes included in the price - 🔄 **15-Day Free Returns** — Hassle-free returns (30 days for PRO members) - 🔒 **Secure Payments** — Trusted payment options with buyer protection - ⭐ **TrustPilot Rated 4.5/5** — Based on 8,000+ happy customer reviews **Shop now:** [https://www.desertcart.hr/products/1853948-black-stainless-steel-prong-dog-training-collar-with-quick-release](https://www.desertcart.hr/products/1853948-black-stainless-steel-prong-dog-training-collar-with-quick-release) --- *Product available on Desertcart Croatia* *Store origin: HR* *Last updated: 2026-10-18*
