I took the plunge and ordered a Thync, and I'm here to tell you, it really kind of sort of works. I've used TDCS before so i have some experience running current through my skull.Here's the skinny: Thync produces a subtle stoning effect when using the calm strip, and the energy strip does make you slightly more alert. It's real, it really works, but its subtle, and god knows what else its doing. Is it as good as your favorite substances? No. But it really does something. Thync heats up when you use it, makes a very high pitched whine and you'll see the occasional phosphene :-DThe calm session combines quite nicely with a glass of wine and Netflix. The energy session, does give you a little pick me up. Do I have a placebo group? No.This product is a strong beta. The app has some annoying UI/UX problems. The iPhone loses its connection to the Thync on a semi-regular basis (CoreBluetooth is tricky!). The battery is the biggest problem--its insufficient for even a few hours use. It seems like I'm always charging the thing all the time. The low voltage detection also doesn't work correctly, when Thync's battery is low it has a brownout, the microprocessor freaks out, drops the BLE connection, the voltage stabilizes, it reconnects to the iPhone, you start a new session, and it dies again. Lastly, you have no control or insight into what is happening with the session. It's an expensive toy, an amusement. I like it, I wish I could turn it way up higher and way longer.Im looking forward to seeing what they do in the future.Protip: You'll need to shave your neck on a regular basis to use the calm strip. And you'll clean your skin with alcohol pads before applying either type of strip. Conductive adhesives don't like skin oil :)

Cost a fortune to bring it to New Zealand. It arrived today and I found the NZ iTunes store doesn't have the app. Lodged a query with the support website and didn't hear back. Finally got the app sorted and the device won't pair with my iPhone 6. In fact, when the Thync is in pairing mode it does not even show up as an available device. The support website had one suggestion for when pairing didn't work but it made no difference. I have lodged another query with the Help Desk and I will update this if I ever hear back. I am a very experienced user of technology and this is a very poor experience. Even my cheapest bluetooth gadgets work without these issues.Update: I also called Thync and they told me to press the power button in time with the light. It paired immediately and now links perfectly each time. It is worth noting the support desk still has not responded to any of my emails about the difficulties I was having!Ok, so when using it something does happen but it is so subtle that finding the so-called sweet-spot is a farce. The calming strip made me feel ma bit sluggish quite quickly, but a longer time did not improve or increase the feeling. The energy strip did not do very much. I will persevere and keep updating my post.Update 1: Used the calming strip before sleep and it did not help. In fact, I had the worst night of sleep in ages. My pillow suddenly felt hard and way too big and I had some terrible nightmares. Could have been a coincidence so I'll try it a few more times.Update 2: Ok so the energising strips seem to work reasonably well so I have added a star. I mainly bought it for the calming function which is too subtle so I am probably going to return it because it does not do what was promised.Update 3: The latest iOS update removed the app from my phone and won't allow it to go back on. This is because it is not available from the New Zealand iTunes store. This device is now unusable unless I buy another device and set it up for a different country.I emailed Thync about this issue soon after my purchase and I still have not heard back. No worthwhile support for a product that does very little.

It does appear to work, for me, anyway...calm produces a similar feeling to meditation, and energy adds a bit of clarity and boost. Device placement is critical for good results (slightly too low and I get pain/headache). Battery life is terrible on my device, however - I can't even complete the 20 minute calm vibe without the module shutting down; 15 total minutes of use at 50-60% seem to be the max before recharge. I've been unable to talk to anyone (left a message) and the email I submitted hasn't received a response after a few days.Update 9/17 - Was able to reach someone on the phone for support, replaced the device through amazon and updated the firmware via the app, and battery life/performance is now inline with specs. Still experimenting with the programs, but it definitely works.
