To answer your question however Amazon list a resonator/pipe that works without any modification for a 1997....1.6. I found that out after purchasing the 46943. **Q: will it fit a 99 4 door lx?** A: It fit both my 1997 EX sedan and my 1998 EX sedan. **Q: Anyone know if this will work on a 96 ex sedan as well?** A: Check out the walker online catalog you fill in all your car info and it'll list all that fit it **Q: I have a 99 civic EX coupe and by the image this should fit correctly. Are there any mods that have to be performed that I can not see** A: We purchased this for our 2000 civic ex and it bolted right on with no mods needed.
