They had become uneven due to using some areas more than others, as well as some moderate gorges. Placed the stones under running water while running the flattening stone over the surface. I was able to even out the surfaces and smooth out the gorges with minimal effort. I do recommend using them under a VERY light flow of running water. This allows them to slide easily but also lets a light slurry build up which I found makes the process go faster. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Must have! *by on Reviewed in the United States April 11, 2026* It is great stone flattener. I use this to keep my sharpening stone to keep flat, as it eventually start curving. I feel like my sharpening stone can not be useless without this. Unless use this flattener and keep the stone flat, we can't sharpen the knives in correct angle. It might even damage knives. This is a must have, if you sharpen your knife with stone. This is super easy to use. It is worth it for sure. I used the FS on a small waterstone and was very happy with the results, it cleaned it up very quickly. That said, I was surprised to see that the FS has been worn down significantly. I had planned on using it on many of my older stones but realized it would be gone in no time if it wore in the manner it did with the first stone. I contacted Salma at Sharp Pebble with my concerns and she was very helpful. She explained that the FS I received must have been defective and replaced it with a new stone. The new FS arrives and worked perfectly with almost no visible wear. I would give the new FS 5 stars but because of the issues with the first stone, I’m staying at 4 stars.
