It reads like a knock off.** A: Montessori is not a brand. Montessori was a person who developed a theory of child development. This theory was used to create an educational method. Montessori schools and toys purport to use this method to teach children. Personally, my 2 year old son and I love this toy. The latches and hinges are pretty thin (when you have latches and hinges this small, they will have to be thinner and more delicate, unfortunately), but this has so far lasted 4 months. My son has dropped it, stood on it w it on its side with the doors open, etc. and it hasn't broken. I have needed to bend hinges back into place, however. The wood of the box is sturdy and well made, so if the hinges and latches do break, we will probably get our own and put them on. The box is pricier than I think it should be, at least at the time I bought it, but we love it and have no regrets. **Q: I tested a similar product's metal and it contained high amounts (>600ppm) lead on the surface.
