One string, one carbon and one 5 micron paper filter. Once I got the fittings tight enough, they have worked great. They are not in direct sunlight at any time. What an eye opener it was to discover just how dirty the local water really was. My hard water is now soft with no chemicals. But the String filter must be changed about every 45 day. **Q: can i run hot water in this housing?** A: Hot water heaters were often set at 140-160F although modern building codes often limit them to 125F. How hot the water at your shower ill be, is something else again. So probably yes, but you'll have to check your water temperature. **Q: Can I attach a regular garden hose to either side of the ports?** A: I did, you just have to buy the proper fittings from half inch to garden hose using PVC. I took mine to hardware store and they gave me the right fittings. **Q: Is it bpa free? (it makes no sense to filter out impurities if it's adding plastic bpa at the same time)** A: That's a good question. I would ck. with the manufacture.
