A few things to point out:1. I’ve read comments about the lock not working, but as you can see, the lock works... just move the latch. It’ll be a little tight at first, but the more you lock it, the easier it is to put on.2. The journal inside CAN be removable, so if you need to refill, you can do so. I tested it out and it’s pretty simple.3. It does have that leather smell, I don’t really remember seeing if it’s made out of real or faux leather, but it does have that real leather smell. So if you don’t like that it’s not faux or you aren’t sure, this journal isn’t for you.4. It’s much nicer looking in person too. The lock is usable (if a little finicky - try supporting from the back while inserting key) and the metal pieces that protect the cover’s corners are removable.Single drawback - in my case the pin in the latch is hinged very loose. It flopped around until I fixed it with a cushion of dental floss.
