My first requirement was that I wanted a stove made of durable material, because all I saw online and in stores looked so weak and they would not resist so long. This stove looks quite sturdy and consistent. My second requirement was a quality burner, almost all stoves are defective and they happen to give uneven flame. When testing this stove the flame was perfectly symmetrical and abundant. My last requirement was the compartiment where it is placed the canister, it is important that the canister receives controlled heat, otherwise the canister get cool and the flame decreases to almost nothing. This stove comes with a aluminum flap that heat slightly the canister allowing gas flow constant. The stove also comes with a case, it is not very durable but it will resist if you use it kindly. One thing to consider is the brand of this stove, I wanted to compare prices at stores that sell Iwatani but I couldn't find the model. However, all models offered were above $100 and I assure you that this stove had everything they have. I still have to try cooking something, I go camping soon, I will make an update of this review with more information. July 11th: Review of my review I went camping, this stove still has 5 stars! excellent product I am in love with it. I had no issues, this stove has a great flame, I cooked pasta and water boiled in 2 minutes!! 100% recommended. Review: Works great!!! - I love this little guy. I work construction and I bring this with me to make lunch for me and my co workers after we got very tired of the same old same old cold sandwiches. Right now I’m only making things like grilled cheese but look forward to trying out things like burger and even steaks eventually!!! As for the more technical parts of this piece of equipment. It starts very easily you turn the dial all the way until you hear a click and if you have your butane canister installed properly it should light up. Something I like a lot about this device is it a has switch that will lock the butane canister in place when turned on and remove the canister when turned off. Probably my favorite part about this device is that it gets extremely hot which is great for things like searing a piece of meat and obviously boiling water. It also comes with a carrying case it feels kind of cheap but gets the job done. Overall great piece of equipment it also has special attachments you can purchase like a grill cover for things like Korean barbecue and yakiniku. It even has a takoyaki cover you can also buy. The Iwatani fuel is much more expensive. Is the GasOne as safe and does it work well?** A: Gas One canisters work just as well, but they're not as safe. Iwatani cans have CRV (explosion-proof) construction, but Gas One do not. However, are many inexpensive brands that do have CRV. I recently paid $5 (on sale) for a 4-pack of CRV cans at the local asian market (they're usually $6). **Q: Is this stove big enough to hold a donabe?** A: Yes. It easily holds a donabe large enough for 4-6 people. It could potentially hold more, but I have not tested it at that size yet. It puts out head adequate to pretty quickly bring the liquid to a boil and holds a simmer well. Make sure to start with the flame fairly low as I cracked a clay pot on the first use by starting at the highest setting. The pot cracked even though it was full of liquid prior to going on the heat. **Q: Is this safe to use indoors?** A: Yes the iwatani portable gas stove is safe to use inside. The unit is light but very stable. Using the recommended gas the unit burns very clean. **Q: Does this product come with a plastic carrying case?** A: yes, it comes with a black plastic carrying case,. Although not one of the most sturdy type it is sufficient for our purpose - i-e storage. None of this comes with it but it is worth knowing I think. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ It has a heat sink (That's important) *by D***H on February 14, 2013* This is the first and only butane burner I've purchased, so I have no way to make direct comparisons. But I did a fair amount of comparison shopping and found the following: Butane burners are used a lot in Japan for something called "Hot Pot" where they keep a pot cooking right at the table. Iwatani appears to be a leading manufacturer catering to this Japanese market, and has made a technologically advanced product with safety interlocks, thermal safety shutoff, and a heat sink. The heat sink was what made this burner stand out for me, and I only found two models that include it in their product description (the other is made by Sterno). The heat sink is a piece of thick aluminum that transfers heat from the burner flame over to the underside of the butane canister. As the butane dispenses, the canister tends to get very cold. When the canister gets cold, the butane doesn't dispense as reliably, and your flame is inconsistent. The heat sink warms the canister, ensuring reliable butane flow and a consistent flame. And it really works. The case is OK, and the burner construction seems like what you'd expect from quality stamped sheet metal--not "rugged," but well-assembled and good fit and finish. The output is impressive, and a little surprising for a guy who has cooked only on electric stoves. When I set the dial on "simmer" to heat up my Lodge Seasoned Steel skillet, before I knew it the skillet was over 600 degrees. So there's plenty of power there, and a caution to keep the flame lower than you might think necessary until you master the stove.
