## Overview

## Description

The NAS 4.0 is Addonics' NAS adapter with several major enhancements. Comes with two eSATAp ports that allows attaching either two eSATA or two USB 2.0 storage devices onto the LAN, as many as 16 storages devices (or drive volume) can be attached to the NAS 4.0 using USB hubs. With these many drives, you can easily share multi-Terabyte storage over LAN or build your own private cloud storage that can be accessed via the built-in FTP server. Performance of the NAS 4.0 is quadrupled from the previous NAS adapter to 75 Mbps over 1G network. Both the maximum number of SMB and FTP accounts as well as the concurrent users supported by the NAS 4.0 is vastly expanded to support over thousands and hundreds respectively. The NAS 4.0 also support storage devices with multiple partitions, with each partition appearing as a share folder on the network. The supported file system now includes XFS, EXT2, EXT3, EXT4, NTFS and FAT32. A very large storage in excess of hundreds or thousands of Terabytes storage capacity can be easily built by attaching multiple units of Addonics RAID Towers or RAID Racks. A storage farm with capacity exceeding many commercial data center can be easily put together at just a fraction of the cost of an enterprise storage system.

Product is old - does not specify that it has not been updated since 2012

*by V***A on Reviewed in the United States on December 12, 2018*

There are multiple issues. Let me start with the good part. I was impressed by the level of documentation. This was one of the reasons I bought this product. Having said that, the documentation is outdated. here are the issues.1. I don't think it is certified for any of the newer routers.2. Their software has not been updated since 2012.3. The scan utility does not work4. Browsers do not recognize the device (chrome, edge, IE)5. Device does not have MAC address on the Case. You need to be a guru to figure this out.I would not recommend this product. For its price of $100, even though there is no competitive product, look for alternatives if you have are switching from a usb available router to a non usb availabe router. At this time, there may not be a market solution for a similar product.

    CORRUPTS DATA

*by A***R on Reviewed in the United States on May 16, 2015*

CORRUPTS DATA. I bought this NAS a year ago and have run it full-time since then. Yes, it's *very* slow over both SMB and FTP (even on a 1GHz net), too slow for interactive use of its disk files, so I have only used it for overnight backup jobs. Yes, it's flaky with NTFS disks, so I used the recommended XFS.But what makes this box, as Consumer Reports says, "Not Recommended": it quietly corrupts files. I run a backup program that reads back files to verify a good write. This passes. And then weeks later I'll find that a file is corrupted. The one that I analyzed had a block full of zero bytes. I thought it was only a problem copying between two attached disks so I removed one. But last week I found another corrupted file on the single attached drive. I have now stumped up the money for a replacement.Do Not Buy.

Easy setup - works well with Sonos

*by C***E on Reviewed in the United States on December 2, 2017*

I got this primarily to hold my music library for my Sonos units. The 16 page user manual walks you through all the screens of the browser-based interface. I used to have a USB disc drive which plugged into my router, but my new ISP's router doesn't seem to support this functionality. Since the Addonics plugs into any ethernet spigot, there is no configuring of the router. I'm now using a 200GB USB memory stick as the NAS storage device, which plugs right into the Addonics box. Once set up, this drive shows up on the Network in Windows explorer. There are cheaper NAS adapters on Amazon, but this one seems to work well and was easy to get going.
