General Brown played an important role in defending the borders of the United States during the War of 1812 in the New York Region. This biography is well written and informs us about one of the more important and competent generals during the War of 1812. General Brown originally began his career as a general in the New York Militia, but eventually was given a general's billet in the Regular Army. While much of the book is concerned with the war, General Brown's post war career is discussed in detail.This book should be read by anyone interested in the War of 1812 in Western New York.

This is a well-researched and thoroughly documented biography of a major figure in American military history.  His successes along the Canadian border and the Great Lakes during the War of 1812 earned him well-deserved praise in military circles and made him a national hero.  From 1821 to his death in 1828 he served as the commanding general of the U.S. Army, and helped to shape it into a professional fighting force.  The book belongs in the library of every student of early American military history.

Excellent book on the War of 1812! It details the real war with the British where the real battle casualties occurred on the Niagra Frontier! Highly Recommend it.
