This one has mixed reviews, BUT, it's a little tricky to calibrate, so I'm guessing those that gave it bad review or said it didn't work, didn't have it calibrated correctly. I chose this model because it's waterproof, so can be used to scan under water, making it great for beaches and lake shores. It's definitely one of the better amateur models and will suit your needs well, if you're looking to have fun detecting. It has a large readout screen and can be set to find specific metals, or metals as a whole. It kept dinging as I passed the tool over the spot, so I just started digging with my fingers until it turned up. Terrific detector and great proce. I thought I was going to have to hire a pro, and possibly never get the ring back.
