The floatation device stayed inflated the whole time and the protection canopy was secure and kept the sun off of my son the majority of the time. (If the float rotated the sun would shine on him). My sun stayed safe and secure the whole time. He actually was so comfortable that he almost fell a sleep. His face was never near the water for a safety issue to prevent an actual drowning. Though with any floatation device constant supervision is always a must. The floatation devise never felt like it was going to flip. It was evenly balances. I would definitely pick one of these up again. The price was just right. The only thing that I didn't like was the pump. The straps are so confusing** A: As much as I love this float, it is EXTREMELY difficult getting a baby in and out!! We either put our baby in it while already in the pool or have her stand on a table, slip the straps over her shoulders and then snap the straps. My little one enjoyed the pool and despite my crazy 4 year old sliding into the pool, splashing around, and jumping in we never had an issue. Obviously I never left him alone in the pool and I was always within arms length, but he floated and kicked around and it would give me 20-30 min of pool time before he was ready to get out.
