SCARPA builds performance footwear for climbing, hiking, skiing, mountaineering, trail-running and other outdoor pursuits. Aside from being the Italian word for "shoe," SCARPA is an acronym for Societa Calzaturiera Asolana Riunita Pedemontana Anonima (Associated Shoe Manufacturing Company of the Asolo Mountain Area).

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Good quality boot, some mild bruising and discomfort during break-in, heel slippage

*by V***H on Reviewed in the United States on April 16, 2018*

I take a 36 in a street shoe (5.5 to 6) and a 37/6.5 in hiking boots. However in these I sized up to a 38. However,,, I always wear a full cushion wool sock and I like having some toe wiggle and room for a toe warmer if needed. I have worn these 3x so far. The base of the boot is fine, no soreness or blisters on the soles of my feet or anywhere else. I am finding there is some break-in time for the side ankle area. There is also a lot of heel slippage if I don't tie them just right. I get some soreness and above the ankle at the base of the calf where the gaiter elastic is located. The elastic backing of the gaiter squeezes my leg (and I am 5', 100lbs soaking wet, and have chicken legs so it's not due to having large calves). They have been fine for 10-12 mile hikes (NH 4000 footers) but when doing consecutive back to back 10-12 mile hikes, I had discomfort the 2nd day around the ankle areas and around where the gaiter cinches that caused mild bruising (the color of a faded black & blue). I am hoping it is due to break-in period needed and not a permanent feature of the boots.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

No break in period, just be sure to order 1/2 size up from street size

*by M***A on Reviewed in the United States on November 27, 2015*

I wear a 7.5-8 in street shoes and bought these in an 8.5. When worn with trekking socks and my feet slightly expanded (as they get when one hikes) the 8.5 fit perfectly. There was absolutely zero break-in time. I read other reviews that said this and I didn't believe it until I experienced it myself! The lacing system is amazing and very secure. The shoes are very warm and stable. When gym training with these boots (they're very heavy and I needed to get my legs used to them) I wore them with ankle high socks: big mistake. The gaiter rubbed my shins raw. When worn with the proper height socks, there has been no trouble at all (my fault, not one of the boots). The gaiters have two different snaps and thus can be worn by people with bird legs (like me) or normal legs. When worn with proper socks, my feet stay pretty dry. The crampons that I have (AustriAlpin DIablos) lock on very tight. All in all, these are great and I highly recommend them.

### ⭐⭐⭐

    Too stiff very uncomfortable

*by B***U on Reviewed in the United States on January 13, 2017*

Read the review before buying these boots, so I went up by two EU sizes--from 36 to 38. At 38 they fit very well. I've never worn mountaineering boots before. I bought a pair of salewa raven 2 summer mountaineering boots at the same time. The scarpa is so stiff-soled that I cannt bend my feet when walking. Also the sock liner is so tight when buttoned up, it's very uncomfortable. In comparison the salewa's sole is much more flexible. I read that mountaineering boots are supposed to have stiff sole to protect feet and ankles, but scarpa hurts my feet after a few steps. I've never put them into real mountainous terrain and only worn them around the house. So it may not be a fair review. It's only that I cannot imagine how I can tread in lthe scarpa for miles while they hurt so much. So Im returning the scarpa and keeping the salewa. i still need to look for a pair of winter boots as the salewa is only good for summer.
