All honeycomb has a waxy texture, this is known as beeswax. You take a bite, chew it up, and spit out the Beeswax :) **Q: How to open it? I’m having a hard time with opening the box.** A: Cut the black sticker where it meets the edges where container separates. Remove all the white plastic around that and if there is honey residue, wash that off and dry then open lid. **Q: Where is Papa Palermo honey comb from?** A: Turkey, Mediterranean mountains **Q: Is it well packaged ?** A: I ordered over $100 worth of honeycomb from Palermo in my time, I’ve only ever had one leak all over. Honey, even in a bottle with a cork in it, will leak if it gets too warm. As any honey eater knows, the warmer it gets, the thinner it gets. And unfortunately, there’s no way to 100% be leakproof, I haven’t had as many issues as others with Palermo specifically, I do know other brands tend to come to my home sticky- even the ones that have plastic wrap around them. Honey is honey, it’s the nature of the beast. Palermo puts enough honey in there that a little spillage isn’t an issue. ## Customer Reviews ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Good! If you get brown spots it's bee bread! Eat them! *by on Reviewed in the United States November 21, 2025* Ok, I ordered two of these. The first one was less than half full and I ordered it in November of 2025 and the expiration date was January of 2026. I was very surprised to see that considering honey has a shelf life of at least a year or two. But I will say as for the taste of the honey itself it was some of the best I've ever tasted. I actually have issues with sugar and because it wasn't so sickeningly sweet where it burns your tongue I actually ate the whole container in 3 days and it didn't bother me like it normally would. The texture of the honeycomb was chewy which is how I prefer it, so being that I went through this way faster than I thought I would I got a second one. The second one came and it was much Fuller so the contents were more desirable but this time it was much more sweet. This is not the products fault different batches come out different ways I'm just Picky and like things as least sweet as they can be so I can eat more of it in one sitting. The odd thing was is that it had a proper expiration date this time that said January of 2027 but it was a little bit more crystaly and the honeycomb was not chewy and soft it was more harder and crystal-like. So I just think it depends on the one you get, none of mine were spilled in the packaging was fine. It's weird how it ships upside down but none of mine leaked. I don't fault a company if something is out of their control. And I will say sometimes I see reviews of people with the honeycomb and they will complain saying there's too much wax, OMG! LIKE HELLO ..if you don't like chewing the honeycomb or dealing with the wax and that nice little natural white coating on top that the bees give us for microbial benifit, then DONT BUY HONEYCOMB! JUST BUY PLAIN RAW FILTERED HONEY BECAUSE THE POINT OF THE HONEYCOMB IS SO THAT YOU CAN CHEW IT, GET ALL THE NUTRITION OUT OF THIS AND SAVOR NATURES BEAUTY FROM THESE WONDERFUL LITTLE BEES! And if you see brown spots...EAT THEM! THAT MEANS ITS A LUCKY BATCH AS THATIS REAL FERMENTED BEE BREAD IN THISE HEXAGONAL COMBS! ITS FULL KF AMINO ACIDS AND ENZYMES...I JUST LEARNED THIS ..
