Several years ago I bought a [[ASIN:B0007WFG2I Japanese Hori Hori shovel made that I use for metal detecting and gardening. I was very impressed with the quality of that blade compared to some of the junk that comes out of China. These shears completely reinforce my respect for Japanese cutlery. For fifteen dollars, they far exceeded my expectations. The blades are very thick and heavy, with real wood handles. The spring mechanism is located inside the bolt that hooks the two blades together, rather than being a piece on the exterior in between the two handles, which are rumored to break on other brands of shears. I have cut chicken and fish with these shears, and they cut through these types of meats like butter. This last weekend, my brother and I made jerky out of a bull elk. While I used a knife for the big cuts of meat, these shears made the process of trimming cuts of meat into smaller pieces effortless. Now that I have used these shears for a few weeks, I am can readily say that I would easily pay up to twice this price for these quality shears. I will be giving out more of them to family members this Christmas!!!UPDATE 30 January 2016After a few months of heavy use, my pair of scissors is still going strong!!! Something i should have pointed out in my original review that the only part of the scissors that cut meat are the flat parts of the blades. The nook used for breaking bones does not really cut anything. This is not really bothersome, but something that should be pointed out. The nook does serve its intended purpose of breaking chicken and turkey bones wonderfully. I have read a bunch of the negative reviews on here and decided to purchase a second pair, as I have seen them pop up on the shelves of a big box store recently. I am 99% sure it is the same manufacturer. This pair from the store is awful and seems to match all of the complaints on here. I think the comment below is correct in that I got a fluke pair of great scissors with the first one I purchased. Also, I do not give out five star reviews easily!!! They are very strong, but have a tendency to separate and misalign when working with the thicker bones.
