Hold the outside of the Alto Protective Leather Case with one hand (but not the top of the case or you will snap off the lid) & push up on the cable with your other hand. You will see the iPad original white case start to separate from the leather case. The margins, tolerances, and fit are SO PRECISE that the black stripe running the circumference lines-up perfectly between the lid and the lower half, and the seam between the lid and lower half is FLAWLESS. The LED display opening is dead-on. The beautifully finished leather provides just the right amount of additional friction, so that I am no longer afraid that the slippery original case is going to squirt thru my fingers as I remove it from my pocket - (like wet soap) - and crack on the floor. You will have to remove the lower half to access the pairing button, but as the seller has noted you just use the charging chord to push up & separate. Last night I charged my AirPods - in the Alto case - wirelessly on my charging pad - so closely do the cases pair. I highly recommend this case if are looking for and enjoy impeccable workmanship.
