But the old cans I used to buy have a little self opener and they removed the spines for the most part. On the bright side I am getting extra calcium on the downside some of the spines have stringy parts in them which I'm trying to avoid eating. It's a little gross. This was the lowest cost I could find at the time. If it wasn't the price it was at I would not buy. I can't find eel sold individually unless it's on sushi. So it's tough to make your own eel sushi. This isn't the same type of eel. It's like dry fish texture w a delicious bbq soaked into it. I would buy again, but just know it's more for on top of rice than making sushi. :) the sauce is amazing!
