**Q: How do you connect the lower pole to the base?  There are no holes on the bottom pole to connect it to the base?**
A: I purchased the floor model, not the standing telescoping one, so I am unable to help.

**Q: Where is this made?**
A: Thus is definitely NOT made in the USA. The box clearly states,  in big letters, Made in China.  Not an American product.
