This is not an improvement filter but one to force a monopoly where the customer now HAS to buy the overpriced GE filters for the lifetime of their fridge. We unfortunately bought a GE fridge that has this filter in it about 6 months ago and while researching options discovered this new scam. **Q: My current filter is xwf. what does the "e" signify? i read from another question that the xefe will replace xwf. please explain.** A: If your fridge is supposed to use XWF, that must mean it does not have an RFID reader so how is it supposed to tell you if your fridge has a leak? Even though you are forced to spend the extra $'s for something you will not even benefit from. Have you ever cut open one of these filters...I have...and guess what, they look the same as the 3 for $25 filters. Just remember to ever so carefully removed the RFID from the OE filter and move it to the 3rd party filter. I did drop another $50 on this one, that way I have a rotating RFID going for me. **Q: Any reason after i installed this replacement that the water has a slight blueish color to it?** A: That’s just the methylene blue coming back out after their “test“. Did you watch the advertising video in the product photos? ;-) Just kidding! It’s probably carbon powder. (Is it little granules of black that are making it look blue, or is it truly blue, like you put blue food coloring in it?) If the ladder, return the thing, it’s probably fake. If it’s tiny black particles, well, They recommend that you flush these things with 2 gallons of water before drinking any of it, but activated carbon shouldn’t hurt you. If it’s still blue after 2 gallons, you have a defective water filter. Also, check the color of your tapwater before it runs through any filters. I noticed my water was cloudy with what looked like a faint color of blue ink in it! People...don't rush like i did, READ THE INSTRUCTIONS! They are clear and easy to follow. After realizing my error 🙃 and correcting it, everything ran smoothly. This particular brand is a little more pricey than i anticipated, however it states you can get a good 6 months or longer out of this filter so I'm pleased.
