I've used one to turn on and off the light on my shed (a detatched work area) which is about 50 feet away. They should work at a good distance if they are not line-of-sight. **Q: I need to put it in a weatherproof box that is 2 1/2 inches wide by 4 1/4 inches lon. Will it fit?** A: It should fit it's approx. 2 1/2 x 1 1/2 it's like a car alarm remote size. **Q: My lamp only has two prongs, will the switch still work with it?** A: Yes, my lamp is two prong and works just fine. I'm an electrical engineer who specializes in safety and there is not a problem using a polarized (two prong) lamp plug in the grounded (three prong) receptacle. **Q: Can I get two matched remotes for it?** A: Yes, but you have to buy two kits. I thought it was worth it as I keep a remote at each end of my shop and it operates my dust collection system. That way I don't have to walk that far to turn it off and on no matter which end I am at. Be sure to call the company before ordering to make sure both kits have the same frequency. It works great. It is plugged into the wall behind a chest of drawers and my bedroom lamp is plugged into it. The lamp is across the room from the bed. This will make it really easy to turn out the lights when I'm already in bed at night. Don't know how well it will hold up over time, but it works like a charm right out of the package. And it came with a battery already included - so that made it really nice. ### ⭐⭐⭐ 3.0 out of 5 stars Remote works, but starts to leak strange substance *by D***I on Reviewed in the United States on March 24, 2018* This is a decent remote, but after just under 3 years of ownership, it started to do something very strange (I'll get to that later).I used this to control a lamp from about 20 feet away. For that purpose, it worked very well. Unless it was time to change the battery, rarely did I ever have to press the button more than once. The transmitter is about the size of a car alarm remote. The buttons have a pleasant "click" to them, unlike some other remotes that feel squishy.For its functionality and convenience, I would give it five stars. However, I have to knock off a couple of stars because of a strange phenomenon that occurred, indicating a potential safety issue. After just under 3 years of ownership, the receiver started to "sweat" a strange substance, which dried into a crusty residue (see photos). This item was kept indoors 100% of the time, in a home with no children and no pets, so it's not like anybody or anything touched it during those 3 years. Fearing that this was indication of impending internal malfunction, I stopped using it and threw it away, as I didn't want it to become a potential fire hazard.I have since replaced this unit with another brand. I decided to buy two more for my bedroom and my son's bedroom. One room is upstairs and one is downstairs. The good news is, the remotes have a long range. The bad news, both remotes are on the same frequency. What a surprise in the middle of the night when my bedroom light came on because my son had turned his light on! We swapped the family room remote switch with my son's and everything is fine.
