Just a different color. The ones installed are white. When they wear out you can install the green ones. **Q: Does this shut off at the core or is it just another valve for the meters ?** A: These connect to your system at the Schrader valves and by turning the handle it will depress/open the Schrader valves. This opens your line set to whatever you connect on the open port on its side: * A vacuum pump * Gauge set * Micro meter * Leak tester * Refrigerant * or a combination of these. Once done with your maintenance or measurements, loosen the red or blue handle, reseating the Schrader valve, closing your system. When I used these for a new system install, I had to tighten the stem seat more than I thought I should to get the vacuum level below 500 microns. That said, I did get the system below 300 microns. So successful for the one and only time I used these. **Q: Can i leave these on my high side service valve all the time or will the weather eventually tear them up? My high side is tough to get to.** A: These are used to depress the schrader core while servicing the unit. Actually to minimize the Freon release when the thumb screw gets hung, and I also use them to pull the Freon out of the high side back into the suction side when done with the servicing to clear the hoses. That is after I turn off the high side then open the gauge set to have it cross flow to the low side.
