I am in the process of changing all of the lighting in our house over to LED. At about $4.70 for an LED bulb verses around $5 for a halogen bulb you get 10 to 20 times the life, 1/3 to 1/4 the electrical cost and load, and a lot less heat (saves on the AC load and costs in the summer). CFL bulbs are a joke, they flicker, slow to start, have to warm up to get full light, never give the life that they advertise, and pollute mercury when they break. The best part is that I don't have to yell at the kids anymore for leaving the lights on. When installing long life light bulbs I always lubricate the threads on the bulb with electrically compatible silicone grease.
