The cape is 2 layers - the black side and the red inner panel, so it's thick and durable. It has a lovely gold accent along the edge which makes it look rich and finished - much better than anything I would have dreamed up at the fabric store. The hat is big and dramatic. Reminds me of the hat in Alice in Wonderland. The vest is thin, but accents the whole costume well. The magic wand feels like it's just a cardboard tube. So if anything goes first, it will probably be the wand getting split in half at some point. My girls have been wearing black pants and a white shirt underneath and it looks great. For sizing, the set fits my 8 year old who is about 4'7", and it also fits my 4 year old who is about 3'8".
