I think quite a few smaller USB drives (physical size) will also stay plugged in with the cover on. Mine certainly does. This keeps dust, cats and guests who have recently immersed their hands in potato chip grease off of you kit so it will last longer. I will not be testing this, but it looks as if liquid spills will also flow off the side of this cover and will not allow liquid ingress to the surface of the controller. I think liquid will still run down the side though. Unless you have your XZ in a hard, waterproof case and only take it out to use when there are no liquids around, I recommend spending the extra money to protect you gear. It's always worth it.
