If I'd of chosen the XL set the sleeves and pants would've been way too long, because this large size is a bit long for me in the sleeves and legs, yet the shoulders and waist are roomy enough for work and recreational purposes. That being said, if your weight is around 140lbs and your height is about 5'7" the large suit would probably be the best overall fit. They arrived today I've only tried them on for the sake of sizing and returns, so i can't say how well they'll perform in the rain. However, this suit seems much more durable than the ones that are sold locally at department/ hardware stores, and the design appears to be solid enough to keep a person dry in the majority of circumstances. The materials it's made of are great quality and should last for many years. Definitely an outstanding value and worthwhile investment for those rainy days. The material is definitely water proof and snow proof and it also kept the clothes inside warm as well.
