In fact I'd probably say they are essential for any tent with a sewn-in groundsheet; they protect the groundsheet from damage and keep the bottom of the tent clean - making it easy to pack. They're also brilliant when the pitch is muddy - its much easier to clean a footprint than a sewn-in ground sheet and the black colour means it dries very fast. If you're in a hurry rmto get away its also easy to clean a footprint at home.
