I think they will last a long time. I use these rather than a walking stick. They allow me to stand up straight and not lean over as in using stick. So keep my back straighter. I can also walk faster which helps with my overall fitness. As an older user, I would say give them a try. They are fully adjustable and the hand straps make them very secure. I don't feel as if I would trip up or fall. Safety in walking with these is good. I saw my orthopaedic consultant and mentioned that I was using the poles to help with my spine and knee problems, he said that they we a really good idea and a number of his patients had benefitted from the use of poles. (No particular make of course) From my perspective I can walk further and faster and breath easier, which surely must be of health benefit. I am no expert! I would say to anyone with similar health issues to give them a try. I didn't want to buy really expensive ones, in case I didn't get on with them, and I'm hoping not to use them for too long anyway. The poles are nice and sturdy, very easy to adjust and fold down, and come with a very handy carry bag, so if you aren't using them e.g. while sitting on a train, they don't take up too much room.The only downside I have found is that, when walking on pavements (which I do mostly) they are very noisy... tap tap tap tap tap tap. I feel like people can hear me coming from miles around.
