## Description

Pet Lodge® Automatic Dog Feeder | Chow Hound Outdoor Pet Feeder | Tough Galvanized Steel | Made in USA (25 lb)

Review: The best outdoor feeder. - I have several of these feeders, and they work well. They last for years. However, many dogs will not push the door open to reach the food. You would think they would learn in time, but some would rather starve than push that door open. To solve this problem, look for the rod that holds the door in place. Turn the feeder on its side and tap the rod out with a hammer. Then you can maneuver the door to remove it. No need to force the door; when you find the right spot, it will slide right out. Problem solved. 👍
Review: Does keep mice out - I do really like this I have field mice that comes in my backyard over the wall from the church straight to the dog food this has definitely stopped that I have tried many many other dog food containers and automatic feeders and this is the one the mice cannot get in it I love it only thing is is I've been trying to teach my dogs to open the door and they both are very reluctant so that is a challenge I'm hoping they will open the door soon I've been training them every day but the overall product I couldn't be happier it does keep other unwanted animals out

## Questions & Answers

**Q: I have 2 large great pyrenese dogs. How wide is the door opening? I am worried it wont be big enough for a big headed dog.**
A: I have a yellow Lab and the opening is barely large enough for her. Feeder is also very low to the ground. We will be putting it up on concrete blocks to make it a better height. This company makes a larger feeder that holds 50 lbs. that might work better for your dogs.

**Q: Does the feeder limit the quantity of dog food or do you rely on the dog to get full and stop eating?**
A: The dog eats as much as they need. There is no limit to the amount they can have. Most dogs self-regulate, but we do have one who cannot be on a feeder.

**Q: Do you think this will keep mice out? We plan to use inside our kitchen where our dog's food bowls have been attracting mice**
A: I believe this will serve better than a bowl. However be aware that some dogs may find difficult to push lid forward with nose and head and eat. My have to tilt lid open as I did

**Q: Does the feeder have a timer so it can this be set up for automatic feeding? What keeps dogs from eating too much?**
A: No timer. When dogs are full, they stop eating and only eat when they are hungry. Thus, no issues with food aggression with their sibling dogs, and it makes for a great feeder when you are out of town for the weekend.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Fantastic Product, Works as Intended With Very Little Training
*by A***W on June 23, 2014*

I have two dogs, a cattledog and a small rat terrier/chihuahua type. Initially both were weary or scared of the feeder, we didn't allow them to get food any other way than from the feeder to start out. This meant at first that during feeding times I had to sit with them and hold it open or slightly open it, sometimes gently nudging them into it with their head/nose to open it until they learned it wouldn't harm them and that at any time they could open it to get the food inside. My cattledog learned and mastered this after about 2 training sessions and the little dog took some more work. She was very scared/unsure about it so I went extra slow with her adding in treats to the food and holding it open for extended periods at first for her to just get used to eating inside of it, then I started smacking the metal while she ate (light and quiet at first, gradually louder) so she got used to noise and metal sound when eating/opening and closing. Once she was comfortable with that I started leaving it open smaller and smaller for her until she had to wedge it open more with her face to get to the food, after that she started to play with it trying to find a way to open it until she got the hang of nudging her head/nose into the door. So as expected just a little patience and soon they learned how to use it, they love always having food regardless of our schedules/life needs and we are delighted that they are taken care of even if we get home late or take a day trip. The feeder holds one of those massive dog food bags (25lbs or so) which is fantastic to double as storage. Flies have been around but I figure after I tape over the back screw holes (for securing/mounting) it should help get rid of them. If you have a small dog that is going to use this just be patient and keep in mind that to them this thing is massive, for us it would be like slamming your head into a 2-3 story house to get food. They will learn, making it the only way to get food greatly speeds the process though be responsible. I am not saying to starve them as you still need to set aside time to be there for meal assistance/training since they won't be able to eat any other way. After they know how to open it though you are free to put down your regular indoor bowl or normal setup. I am sure any dog can learn how to use it, just some require more patience and training than others.
