Even the tp link 1000 series, only got me speeds of around 150 from a 500 mbps connection. The takeaway here is if you want over 100mbs, you need a unit with a gigabit ethernet port, (then yes, you would need cat 5.a or cat 6 ethernet cables) anything else is going to give you under 100. **Q: Would this extend the wifi signal as well?** A: Well, if you plug-in a wifi range extender in it maybe. So far they've performed well providing close to gigabit performance. The Windows-only configuration utility is useful as it shows the connectivity details between each adapter including third-party ones and allows all to be named and TP-Link ones to be configured to prioritize certain classes of traffic at the MAC (layer 2) level. After installing the application, I'd recommend uninstalling the obsolete and no longer supported WinPcap it also installs and replacing it with the latest version of Npcap which is backward compatible and more secure. On the down side, they are rather bulky so if installing on a wall behind, say, a TV cabinet there will have to be a gap, especially if you use the pass-through power socket.
