## Overview

This book offers an in-depth exploration of fashion from the 18th to the 20th century, featuring a rich collection from the Kyoto Costume Institute, complete with expert commentary and a plethora of visual references.

## Description

Clothes define people. A person’s attire, whether it be a sari, kimono, or business suit, is an essential code to his or her culture, class, personality, even faith. Indeed, clothing has the power to define people and their generation. Recognizing this sartorial significance is the Kyoto Costume Institute, whose team of curators examine fashion through sociological, historical, and artistic perspectives . With one of the world’s most extensive clothing collections , the KCI has amassed a wide range of historical garments, including underwear, shoes, and fashion accessories dating from the 18th century to the present day. Showcasing the Institute’s vast collection, Fashion History is a fascinating excursion through clothing trends from the 18th to the 20th century . With photographs of clothing displayed on custom-made mannequins and commentary from some of the sharpest minds in fashion studies, the book is a testimony to attire as “an essential manifestation of our very being” and to the Institute’s passion for fashion as a complex and intricate art form .

Review: Very, very happy!!!!! - Excellent material, very illustrative and awesome quality, very fast shipping!!!! Thanks very much.
Review: Is It Worth It? (Sewing Edition) - This book has a very high rating and it SHOULD. This book is beautiful and the garments presented are truly works of art. No other book has inspired me to buy some Indian Chintz Fabric so fast as this one. The details are up close the only problems I have with this book is that some of the pictures are from a profile view and the front and back are not shown. The other problem I had was so few items from the 50's :( (I know its not a book dedicated to the 50's but I love that era ).Even with those in mind I would not hesitate to purchase this book again at a higher price point.. I would have really REALLY liked to see some garments by the infamous Olga Nikolaevna Bulbenkova, one of the creators of those wonderful Russian court gowns sported by the Romanov (Last Imperial Dynasty) family to hold the throne. Is it worth it? Yes

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Smaller than a “Coffee Table Book” , but photography of details makes up for it.
*by L***O on February 16, 2021*

Smaller hardback (6”x8”x1.5”), not a “Coffee Table Book”, but well-bound and easy to hold. This is a picture book of The Collection of the Kyoto Costume Institute. The photography is gorgeous and there are many close-ups of details of the garments, & photos of accessories such as 18th century fans, 20th century shoes, French stomachers, corsets, etc. Men, women, and some children’s fashions are included. The oriental influence is highlighted throughout, especially in the early and late 20th century. The garments are mostly English and French.
