There is a notch on both sides of the packet where you can tear it open but it is easy to spill some of the juices in the packet so we often use small scissors to cut the top off. Or tear one side part way then tear the other side and it comes off pretty easy. Our cat loves all the Delectables and will only eat these for his wet food...but he is 19 years old so pretty picky in his old age! So my guess would be Location? **Q: Will this mask a pill for my cat?** A: To be honest it depends on the cat and the taste and smell of the pill. I had one cat that it worked well for and another cat it did not and it was for the same antibiotic. It is also necessary to be able to crush the medication. Sometimes it works if you blend some canned cat food with an emersion blender or use meat baby food. **Q: I ordered a 12 pack and received just 1 pouch??
