An amazing light! Could not believe this could run on 4AA batteries.

*by M***S on Reviewed in the United States on August 14, 2015*

It's hard to believe this light would work on Turbo for about an hour but it can and that's the amazing part. I wanted this light for the throw which can go over a thousand feet (or 326 meters) and this has good flood as well. Much brighter than the 3D 625 lumen Maglite i had gotten. This light has the best of both worlds, a moonlight mode which can last up to 80 days or a low 13 lumen mode that lasts for 93 hours. If you do plan on using this light for the turbo mode, keep a few extra lights with you because you will more than likely be changing out the batteries a few times and it's recommended to use Eneloop Pro or the Duracell Ion Core, 2400mAh cells for maximum run time. If you want an extra boost, you may want to consider the 2700mAh PowerEx cells. Even though you can swap out those cells and get a new batch to get another hour run time at 1150 lumens, it might be prudent to lower the settings as just from having this light on for a minute on turbo, this thing heats up quickly. While this is a good 1150 lumen light on the spot, i still would prefer having my Fenix LD41 for basic stuff and to avoid having the cells used in the TN4A wear out quicker, along with having the light heat up even though it can handle up to 80C i prefer to keep it around 40C. I don't know how this light would behave in the winter time but i would recommend if the light is cold enough to let it warm up first before cranking Turbo out. I would start with low to medium and let it warm up on medium to high then to turbo. Of course there may be a situation where you need turbo right away and have no time to wait around but if you do i would recommend letting the light warm up first to avoid the components expanding or contracting due to the extreme temp variation.Overall i find this light to be great, one thing about the tint and this makes the CW seem a bit more like the NW. I came to realize that the CW isn't as CW as your basic CW flashlight and this does make a bit of a hassle because you can't really tell whether your CW light is really CW or NW. I got a yellowish tint where i compared my LD41 to this light (around the 600lm settings) and this light doesn't put out the CW you get from other lights and whether or not i actually have a NW is up for controversy. According to other reviewers, they got the same thing with the CW version of the light. The box shows CW and the instructions as well but it's still tough to say. NW is easier on the eyes and should not reflect as much as the CW in which case i had the setting on medium on my arm and there was a definite reflection glare coming back at me so i assume my light is definitely CW. Even if it was neutral white, it really doesn't make a huge difference other than the NW will seem less bright. So the mystery of whether or not i got a CW light may not ever be solved unless i get a NW light to compare it with. It may also be possible that amazon buyers may be buying both and returning one with the wrong box so when it's resold, the buyer kept the cool white but grabbed the wrong box to return the neutral white version. Either way i'm impressed with this light.Edit: Putting in a fully charged set of Duracell Ion Core NiMH batteries definitely proved to me that i have CW. You can really see the glare, the previous batteries were a set of Eneloops that only had 1.23v when removing them from this light, which apparently was not low enough to trigger the low battery warning. I assume that would happen if the voltage goes down under 1 volt (for each cell) but you will notice a slight difference in performance on Turbo and you will start seeing glare more often when the cells are charged. Amazingly though even with the lower voltage the TN4A will still put out quite a lot of light

    Excellence in portable lighting

*by W***A on Reviewed in the United States on December 3, 2019*

Simply one of the best flashlights I have ever owned. Liked it so much I gave one to my best friend as well. If you are comfortable with Lion batteries and have a good charger the size weight advantages offer many "better" lights. However, this light is not all that large or heavy and does feel nice in the hand. The size also has a significant advantage if you want to run it on higher output for longer times. Not many 18650 lights can put out as much light as this for extended periods without running into thermal throttling issues. The UI is excellent! I would not have thought so until I spent enough time with it but now I get it and it is genius! Your in the dark but don't want to loose your night vision or disturb your SO sleeping, just hold down the power button and you get a wonderful moonlight mode. Your in the dark and hear something in the distance simply double click and get over 1000 OTF lumens! Most of the time I use mine on low so that is typically what is stored in the memory. Simple click turns on to memory. Holding when on will always step down first then cycle up through mid and high. Sounds dumb but actually this really is a nice way for it to work.I chose the Neutral white and it is very nice. Good beam pattern with excellent flood and throw beyond 200 meters. Very nice balance between flood and throw at all levels. You can tail stand it and light up a room very nicely with a great tint.Yes the batteries fit tight. Yes if you drop it the light may stop working. This happens because the batteries loose contact from the fall and the tightness of the holder prevents them from re-establishing contact. Not a big deal once you know that all you have to do is re-set the batteries. The first time I put batteries in it was quite difficult. I don't understand that now as I have changed them many times and it was only really difficult the first time. Not a problem at all to carry in a winter coat pocket. The holster would work well for those that have to carry for work. For pocket carry I have better lights. For a light to have on a nightstand or by the door I don't have anything better. Have no hesitation to recommend this light.

Amazing Battery Life on FireFly Mode

*by R***Y on Reviewed in the United Kingdom on January 11, 2020*

I've given up on the giant baton torches, I wanted something small I could fit in my pocket. This torch is quite small and fits in my hand nicely - see photo, and also fits in the pockets in my coats and jeans. It has a belt holster, but I never use them and they do make you look a bit like a wannabe superhero with a utility belt. My old maglite is more like carrying a 18 inch assault baton - and never gets used anymore despite having been upgraded to LED. It's too dim and too big and too heavy. This torch is short, squat and small and pocket size.It feels very well made. I was a bit bothered that it didn't have a focus or zoom ring like my old Maglites, but actually, it doesn't matter or need them and it's one less thing to worry about. Nothing rattles and the whole thing just works well. I find I forget how to change modes - but randomly double pressing and long holding the power button normally gets the result I want. There is a strobe mode - which I don't like - but I guess it has specific use cases and will stretch the battery life out.The center of the beam is nice and smooth and the reflector has an orange peel pattern on it which diffuses it. In turbo mode, it seems brighter than my car's headlights - and will drain the battery super quickly. The electronics inside seem to work well and if you are at risk of overheating, they reduce the brightness. What I was unprepared for was the performance on FireFly mode. In what my kids told me was the most boring science project ever, I loaded the torch with 4 standard Eneloop rechargeables (in my tests, they were holding about 2100mah each, and turned the torch on in FireFly mode. I wanted to see how long it would run for.To give you some context, FireFly mode is what you can use outside when your eyes are fully adjusted. It's enough to follow a path, or read a map. It's also not going to blind you or others if the beam ends up in their eyes. It reminds me of the light from my old cycle lights in the olden days before LEDs and Alkaline batteries existed.I had been expecting the torch to run for a few days. However days became weeks, and weeks became months.I left this torch on 24x7 for THREE MONTHS NON-STOP!!!!Now I do recommend you load this torch with Eneloops for three reasons:1) Eneloops have a great capacity - especially the PRO version allowing for even longer runs - more than many alkaline batteries;2) The Eneloop batteries can release that stored energy at full whack meaning your torch can run at max brightness (making them also great for high powered camera flash guns too);3) The Eneloop's self discharge rate is very very low. If you don't use the torch, after five years, they will still have 70% charge left. I wanted this torch originally to keep in my car's glove box for emergencies. I discovered a long time back that most rechargeable batteries are useless for that use-case, so one either buys environmentally damaging single use ones, or buys Eneloops and saves the planet and one's pocket. The torch's support for both AA alkaline and rechargeable batteries means that you also have the best chance of buying spares or finding them around your house if you ever need them. All camping shops, garages and supermarkets will have these. Many of my other special torches have special batteries and chargers in stupid sizes.Another feature liked was the battery module can be inserted either way up. ThruNite have put the power connector on both ends - so it doesn't matter.I still just can't get over the fact that this torch ran 24x7 for three months on one set of batteries. I was going to try it with the Eneloop pro batteries, but to confirm this would take me four months, and I like using this torch and so that is a challenge for somebody else to undertake.
