Ideal for anyone who spends time in the wilderness or likes to hunt, this set's trailing point hunting/skinning knife features a 3-1/2-inch, 440 black stainless steel blade. This full tang knife has a green camo ABS handle with finger grooves and a lanyard hole which will allow you to easily affix extra cordage. It's complemented by a deep bellied knife with a gut hook on the top edge, which features a 3-7/8-inch, 440 black stainless steel blade with a finger hole for tighter control. This full tang knife has a green camo ABS handle with a non-slip texture and thumb jimping on the back of the blade for added control. That thing is narrow, sharp, and agile. I was using an old set of pocket knives in place of my larger skinning knife for convenience and for the detail work with fascia and connective tissues. No longer. This thing did most of the work for me. I didn't notice any significant dulling or failure to puncture or slice by the fourth rabbit. I was under the impression that it would have just kept up the skinning for another 4 without needing to be whetted into shape. Then, after cleanup, I took the set to my Ken Onion Worksharp system. I was able to get it sharper than factory on a 400 grit belt, 5 pulls each side, about a second per inch. I followed with a 1,000 grit polish at 4 quicker pulls because I couldn't find my 800 grit belt. My kids are at the point that they can sharpen their own pocket knives, but this means that they are using my tools now too, so-- I am going to purchase another set or two. No joke. They are not as Cadillac as a certain $400.00 skinner I have, but they work nearly as well and any inadequacies in the steel are managed easily after each day's run. **Q: These knives look a little small. Is 7 inches overall length enough for skinning big game?**
A: Great for skinning big games you do not need a big knife just a good sharp one and this set is sharp be careful in putting it back in it will cut the leather

A: Find somebody that does custom leather products like men's belts etc. Might look at craft shows or biker events

**Q: they are full tang right?**
A: if Im right full tang means the metal from the blade goes all the way through the handle. and yes if that thats what it means

**Q: Is the larger knife good enough to rip through the sternum?**
A: Yes I would say so because I used the smaller knife for the same task worked great.

I'm not a hunter, but a hobbyist taxidermist. Basically, I pick up fresh roadkill and I preserve the bones, and now, I'm preserving the hides as well. I got this set of knives with the intention of using them just for the tails of squirrels and raccoons, but today I decided to give a full-body skinning a try. I've never done it before and wasn't sure if I could stomach it, but let me tell you, these knives really made it an easy process. The blades are very sharp. They glide through the meat and sinew easily and I had no trouble separating the skin from muscle. The knives were easy to work with in my small hands and I was able to cut through flesh with minimal sawing motions. After a few hours of work, I now have a really, really nice squirrel pelt. I can't wait to use these knives again.
