Then the lid stopped opening because the internal lever that opens and closes the lid snapped (plastic). It was not abused, it was not forced closed or anything, it just failed. So, I bought a replacement lid. It lasted 1 1/2 years, then the same lever snapped again. I was the only one home at the time so I know for a fact that it was not user error. Too bad that the lid seems to be designed to fail so you have to repeatedly replace the lid. If buying new, I'd try a different brand. PS.
