Not the adapter.** A: It sucks. Don’t buy it. **Q: What is the heaviest a dog can be** A: I wouldn’t go over 15 pounds! **Q: Maximum weight** A: I don’t use it for my dogs but it can handle a lot I am a teacher and I commute to work. I carry food, clothing, dry erase boards, bike lock, sanitizer. Extra mittens/scarf/jacket etc sometimes my helmet, etc. Sometimes a bag with teacher stuff, shoes, etc etc etc. I don’t know that I can give an exact weight and of course the weight on the front could affect your ride/steering/handlebars, so you have to get used to it… but I’ll bet it can probably handle between 25-35 pounds. **Q: What the distance between mounting brackets?** A: The inside distance is 2 1/8” and the outside distance is 3 1/4”. Sorry for the delayed response - my bike hangs from the ceiling in the garage, and I had to wait to get it down. Hope this helps.
