## Description

Southern Ag Thuricide BT Caterpillar Control, 16oz - Pint

Review: No more bagworms! - My Eastern Red Cedar is a favorite of bagworms. There were no problems until some nitwits cutting down a nearby Boxelder Maple dumped the huge stumps right next to the Cedar in my front yard, and left them there for several days. The damage to my lawn was bad enough, then later I noticed what looked like dinky pinecones hanging all over the lower branches. But cedars grow little blue berries, not pinecones. So what the heck were these things? A bit of research told me that bagworms will live inside the bark of Boxelder Maples. But with the stumps lying right next to the cedar tree, its pungent aroma attracted the bagworms like moths to a flame. I manually pulled off literally hundreds of bagworm sacks, which must be physically destroyed to prevent reinfestation. I noticed they had decimated the foliage on the lower branches. Literally stripped them bare. Bagworms will destroy entire trees if not eradicated. For months afterward, I kept looking for those little pinecone things, finding ones here and there once in a while. I was pleased to see the bare branches regrowing their foliage. Now I keep a lookout for not only visible sacks, but any indication of damage. Not content with simply removing the visible bags, I bought this anti-caterpillar product. The entire 20 foot tall tree was thoroughly sprayed several times, yet there’s still enough left in the bottle for a couple more applications. Over the summer, after spraying the tree in the spring, I noticed wasps investigating the tree for several months. Clearly they were searching for tiny insects and such, so I let them do their thing. Whether bagworms or some other pest, they were welcome to eat whatever they could find. Unlike hornets, wasps tend to be relatively docile. They aren’t interested in people or animals; they just want to eat every bug they can find. In spring, I plan to spray the entire tree every few weeks until I run out of product. This stuff doesn’t harm other insects, just bagworms and other unwelcome caterpillars. Anything hurting my tree by feasting on it must die! (Birds and rabbits and stuff are more than welcome to eat the berries, though. Bon appétit!)
Review: It works! - Great product, shipping was quick.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: If i have cabbage aphids on my broccoli plants and i have sprayed bt, will it kill the aphids when they eat the leaves?**
A: All 4 of the current answers are nonsense. It kills caterpillars and worms and the moth or butterfly eggs which produce the caterpillars. It is harmlees to other types of insects and harmless to humans. You CAN spray this on edible vegetables. It is a bacteria and no more harmful to humans than acidophilus in yogurt. Search [organic spray for aphids]. I found a product called Organicide which is safe for bees, ladybugs (they eat aphids) and butterflys. It contains SESAME OIL as its active ingredient. Neem oil will control aphids and many other pests, molds, mildews and other fungi. However, Neem Oil has a nasty taste and smell. I wouldn't recommend spraying the actual florettes.

**Q: Can this product be used as preventative measure and how often? Thank you!**
A: Thuricide is based on a bacteria (or group of bacteria) that infect a variety of caterpillars. It takes 4 days for the caterpillars to die from the caterpillar, so reapplying less than 4 days is a waste.

This is my 1st year with Thuricide. I found one large Tabacco Hook Worm on tomatoes. Applied Thuricide and never saw any more, live or dead. I applied more about 10 days later (there was a break in the daily rain), and again in about another 14 days. Never saw more caterpillars. So I quit applications.

Just my observations. Not a study.

**Q: does it kill beneficial bugs and worms**
A: It kills caterpillars, some caterpillars grow up to be beautiful beneficial butterflies and others crop pest moths. Spray only on plants
You want to protect and spray carefully.

**Q: will it kill army worms**
A: Yes, it will. It may take up to 4 days after application, and make sure there is no rain or sprinklers to wash it off or you'll have to reapply. The key is to make sure you are applying to the leaves, not necessarily the ground or the army worms. The formula must be on their food source so it can get into their digestive system. It basically kills from the inside out.

Works well and it is long lasting. You need only 2 Tbsp per gallon. You could make it more concentrated if necessary.
