Some slick, glossy, non-absorbent coatings will not allow the Mod Podge to adhere properly (or permanently). If your surface has this type of coating, you can still use the Mod Podge, though I would recommend rubbing steel wool or a fine sandpaper over the area you will be covering with the tranfser image. This will open up the surface for absorbency and makes it slightly rougher to allow the Mod Podge to adhere more permenently. You may also consider using the Mod Podge or a clear coat spray to seal the finished piece after the transfer has been completed. A spray-on clear coat will be more durable for outdoor displays. **Q: I want to use this to tint some bottles, so I was wondering if the glue will come off if I put water in the bottles after they are dried?** A: I have used Mod Podge for years, and yes, it will come off your items if they are soaked in water. If you get water spatters, you will get noticeable spots. If it's a brief moisture, like wiping with a damp cloth, it doesn't harm your finished item much, probably not noticeable, but the item will be tacky after moisture. In areas with high humidity, items can remain tacky and can stick to other surfaces. For these reasons, I always seal my finished product with the spray sealer (also from Mod Podge, although others will also work). After a complete sealant, items are relatively impervious. **Q: Can thos product be used in mason jars that will have flowers in them?** A: Yes this product can be used in mason jars. **Q: Will this product work on plastic flower pots? We sanded and painted the pots and we want a clear finish to protect the paint for outside use.** A: Patti, I use this product a lot but never outside unless I top with a clear coat of some kind of weather resistant top coat. It will work on your flower pots for sure if they are kept inside. I find that the items I used outside with just the Modge Podge will get sticky to the touch in warm weather, which would lead me to believe that the constant cold/hot and dry/wet conditions would break it down pretty easy.
